Hello everyone, iv been looking around for a new video card, because my integrated 64mb video is just.. well is completly a useless peice of sh*t, and i was wondering what would be a good video card to get, that isnt to expensive but has atleast 128mb of video ram, and has to AGP because my computer duz not have a PCI-E slot only PCI and AGP

It depends strongly what do you call a cheap card. Because there still are some good ass cards for agp but they cost alot. I'd say that a radeon 9800 pro isn't too expensive and i'm sure it can take SLRR full detail high resolution without any problem

The HD 2600 Pro is a relatively new GPU that just so happens to be on AGP in this case. Only $92 USD (I see you're in Canada, so you can't get it from Newegg ) and it will even play some of today's games since it's DirectX 10, but at lower resolutions. Hope this is what you're looking for.

ATI Radeon X1950GT or Pro in AGP guise... Or even the nVidia 7900GS. They are both cheap and good cards.
Dont get a 9800, they are OLD, and you probably wont find a new one (I bought my 9800Pro back in 2003, GFX cards have come a long way since). They are severly outdated, specially since they lack SM3.0.. ATI cards first got SM3.0 from the X18XX and up.. Thats 2. generations up from the 9800 (the line goes 9800 series, X800 series, X850 series, X1800 series, X1900 series, HD series). Even the X1950's and 7900's are already outdated since they are DX9 cards

I can only recommend a Ati Radeon 1950 GT or Pro, they have the best Price/Power and there are 512mb versions too

HD2600 is a budget card. It's beaten in DX9 performance by anything from a X1800 and above (altho they were performance cards to start with).
It might be a DX10 card, but it frankly dissapoints in DX10 performance (as does ANY DX10 compatible card right now IMO). Dont get a 2600 just because its a DX10 card! It a good card if it comes with a computer, but if you are upgrading it yourself, there's many better alternatives (not to put your card down Wichur). |

FX5500 (if that's what you got) isn't so great, it's sort of old. Yes HD2600 isn't so good at DX10, but at least it's there. And SL is DX9.

listen
x1950 pro is the best performing agp as far as i know, then comes the 7800gs agp you wont get any better UNLESS you live in europe with crazy companies putting 7900 nvidia's on 7800 chassis or something stupid like that, lehto has got a 7900 or something on his agp bus which is a 7800 agp chassis but amercian wise, 7800gs or x1950pro i would get 7800 again cuz i like nvidia better for multidisplay, its just a preference. but panther had a 1950 once and we both benchmarked some games and his was slightly better each time |

Quote are u serious wtf damn i miss stuff i just should die ![]() added through 1 minute Quote but its better to get something newer than oldie cuz oldie doesnt even technology to even start newer games that require some new stuff liek 3.0 and etc so it would be a waste if u dont wanna spend money get a cheap 7 series or cheap ati card that is at least newer than 2 years not 5 ! Still, he should be saving up for a new motherboard with PCI Express instead of dumping money into old technology.

I'm running a Radeon 9550 Pro AGP right now, I got it for $50, so that's definitely reasonable.
It work's OK, but what you really want to do is get a PCIe motherboard. Of course, that might not be a financial possibility, in which case I'd go for one of the radeon AGP cards.

As long as it's AGP and cheap, that may actually be a good way to go. Specrider lives in Canada though, so you might want to check out shipping charges.

as many ppl said u dont wanna spend alot of money on old tech, depending on how much panther wants for his card u should buy it, or do like a friend of mine, he bought my old pc and it had a real sucky geforce 440mx 128mb wich he replaced with a xfx 7600gt and it does the job real well, its super cheap these days too.

well if someone wants to look around for a decent price for the x1950 pro, just let me know of the cheapest price you can find for that card and i will make my price less than that. i was thinkin for the x1950 pro i would charge 80 or 90 including shipping, or 100 including the shipping, depends where the person lives.
thats considerably less than what i paid for it, i paid 234 for it when i bought it new on newegg. its only been used for a month or less. so its basicly brand new. |
